The Houston office of ad agency J. Walter Thompson had been pitching new business for a year with few results. Frustrations were high. General Manager Mike McDonald brought together numerous personnel to address the problem. A New Business Director from sister ad agency Ogilvy & Mather was identified and the Executive Creative Director as well as the Director of Brand Strategy and Communication were brought in from the outside. Yet JWT Houston had made little impact on its market.

Each person possessed considerable strengths, experiences and creative vision. The impasse, however, resulted from their differing approaches and experiences. Team members pulled in separate directions as each person assumed his or her own way was the right way to approach clients.

Personalysis' first task was to help the JWT team understand each other's experiences, creative vision, and personality styles. These styles affected each team member's way of expressing themselves, making decisions, dealing with stress, and handling change. Personalysis taught the team better ways to cooperate, given these fundamental differences.

Having learned a new way to work together, the differences in creative vision and experience actually became an enhancing value to the team and made for a stronger work product. The team now possesses the skills and insights needed to channel their diversity and approach clients with one vision and one voice.

Encouraged by this initial success, Personalysis is now used to guide JWT to smart decisions as they create the best matches and most effective working relationships within teams. The results speak for themselves: stronger team collaboration and a growing client roster.
